The question is: Do we still NEED a solo only queue? Two quotes from the roadmap thread:
"VOIP - The long awaited VOIP functionality using the integrated team speak SDK. You will be able to turn this feature on or off as well as to mute and unmute players. Upon release this will be restricted to team chat, not smaller subsets. This is also still due for some technical testing as to the impact if any on game play due to the increased network traffic, so there is a chance it will be delayed if those tests perform poorly."
And:
"One future item that I feel is worth mentioning is new Looking For Group functionality that we hope to release in March. This will allow players to browse a list of players that are LFG, add themselves to the list. As well groups will be able to fill up their groups using this window and also set themselves to open group status to allow others to join in."
VOIP should be a leveler of the playing field in my opinion, giving solo teams a near group queue level of comms. I remember people saying that this was the deciding element in "pug stomps." So with that "advantage" removed, is the field now level? And if it isn't, why not?
Looking for Group will be interesting too-it will make grouping super casual and easy, hopefully more people will now do it that they don't have to cross the perceived "elitism" barrier of grouping. It should help out in CW immensely.
Now that voip will be here and grouping up will be super easy and casual-is there really a need for a solos only queue? As with voip alone the solo queue will start to take on elements of the group queue.

The Looking for Group option sounds useful, except of course for the AMAZING LACK of inter-player communication functionality MWO has had from the start.
There isn't much point inviting someone to your group (or accepting a blind invite) if you can't chat/tell the player in question to find out what they are looking for.
Anyone know if there is a way to communicate with LFG players?
(Also, if there is any way at all to tell if the person on the LFG queue is utter newbie, casual player, hardcore veteran etc?)

At the very least I would think they'd let people show which type of mechs they are willing to field. As for skill level, how will you stop people from saying they are better/worse than they are? That will have to be luck of the draw I think. Most veterans will have their own groups already so wouldn't get as much use out of this feature anyways.

Voip will help what it wont do is make up for the mechs dropping built perfectly to work together, The fact the group has played together multiple times, And speak the same language.
If you add groups back to solo be prepared to suffer the consequences.

Create a new queue reserved only for Stock mech matches. Put it in the 3025 tech-one timeframe. Make that the default queue for new players and those that prefer to shed their addiction to the mechlab. Remove all quirks and ghost heat from the stock queue. Increased time to kill. New players don't have to worry about finances, modifying their mech, nor insta-death from 60+ FLD shots. And those of us sick to death of the meta have a place to play Mechwarrior where it feels more like Battletech than Solaris.
At least, that's my dream.

So combining all ques will cause problems for all (stomps for pugs and small groups, unenjoyable stomping for large groups). It's possible that voip would close the gap some, and it would not be as bad as it waas previously. Testing for a week or so wouldn't hurt anything.
Putting small groups with pugs would probably work, but then large groups lose their filler causing 12 mans to have limited options for opponents.
If voip helps anyone it will be smaller groups vs a large group. Unfortunately groups are too 'leet' to use it over their own TS according to the forums.

When I do pose another question, I may use quotes from this thread-I'm NOT picking on you or arguing for arguing's sake if I do-is that clear. I'm trying to provide a foil for discussing the need for split queues, ok?

The games struggling population wise as is we all know it.....
Driving new players away would be fatal at this point.
And that's what your suggestion would do.
They separated for this very reason to begin with , Because the forum goers would have you believe a few whiners caused the split.
Not true , Whining went on for months that im aware of ignored (probably years) Nothing was done till people like me just started leaving the game clearly enough did it to get PGIs attention.
